Ford says Antrim barracks closure will hit town very hard

Alliance Leader David Ford has stated that the loss of 100 jobs at Massereene Barracks in Antrim will be a devastating blow to the local economy in the town. His comments come after it was revealed that the Massereene Engineer Regiment Barracks is to close in 2010, with staff moving to RAF Aldergrove.

Paisley and McGuinness must stop delaying and heed advice on Victims' Commissioners

Alliance Leader David Ford has accused Paisley and McGuinness of making a mess of helping victims by delaying progress on the issue in the Assembly. He also outlined the constructive suggestions that Alliance provided in their amendments on the Victims' Commissioner legislation. He said that it shows what mess OFMDFM is in, when it goes into meltdown over helpful suggestions to solve a crisis it created.

Alliance Leader announces that Belfast is to host top international political conference

Alliance Leader David Ford has announced the excellent news that the party will be hosting a top international political conference in Belfast this summer. The Liberal International Congress will be taking place at the Europa Hotel between the 15-17 May this year, and will be examining issues like political conflict, human trafficking and environmental protection. Lord Alderdice, who is the current President of Liberal International, has also expressed delight at the Congress coming to Northern Ireland.

Ford says Executive is divided and has squandered big chance on councils

Alliance Leader David Ford has launched a stinging attack on Executive plans for local government saying they will fail to make councils more effective and will result in a damaging tribal carve-up. He also said that the fact that the two Ulster Unionist Ministers today voted against the plans underlines deep problems at the heart of the Executive.

Ford praises Lough Neagh environment plan

South Antrim Alliance David Ford MLA has praised the Lough Neagh Wetlands Local Biodiversity Action Plan which was launched today. He said that wildlife in the area needs this protection and that the plan will also boost sustainable tourism in the long term.

Ford attacks First Minister over failure on sustainable transport

Alliance Leader David Ford has launched a stinging attack on the Executive for its failure to deliver better public transport. In the Assembly today, Mr Ford asked the First Minister what he was doing to improve public transport instead of delivering meaningless platitudes on the issue. His comments came following a British-Irish Council Summit Statement from Mr Paisley.
