Alliance can now nominate for the Justice Ministry

Alliance Party Council last night recommended that Leader David Ford can now nominate a candidate for Justice Minister. Party Council agreed that the two conditions which Alliance raised have now been met. Sinn Fein and the DUP have agreed on the community relations strategy and genuine progress has been made on agreeing a Justice Department policy programme.

Ford welcomes Robinson and McGuinness community relations breakthrough

Alliance Leader David Ford has welcomed news that the First and Deputy First Ministers have agreed a new community relations strategy for Northern Ireland. The Cohesion, Sharing and Integration strategy had been delayed for around two years and will now be circulated to other Ministers in the Executive.

Foster must work to safeguard the Assembly

Commenting on news that Arlene Foster is to temporarily replace Peter Robinson as First Minister, Alliance Leader David Ford has said it provides a genuine opportunity that must not be squandered to overcome outstanding problems between Sinn Fein and the DUP.

Outrage at Randalstown Car Bomb

Alliance Leader David Ford MLA has expressed his outrage at those who left a bomb underneath a car on the Milltown Road in Randalstown. The bomb exploded at 06:30am on Friday, one man who is a police officer, was in the car at the time and has been taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

It's a positive sign that Peter Robinson is back at work

Alliance Leader David Ford has said the fact that Peter Robinson is back at his desk is a positive sign for political progress in Northern Ireland. Mr Ford also said that Alliance fully recognises the difference between people's personal and political lives, and expects others to do the same.

Ford welcomes Foster assurances on justice talks

Alliance Leader David Ford has welcomed assurance from Acting First Minister Arlene Foster that the current round of discussions will include all Assembly parties, not just the DUP and Sinn Fein. In the Assembly today, David Ford pressed the Minister for inclusive talks and progress on other outstanding issues.

Ford condemns Antrim pipe bomb

Alliance Leader and local MLA David Ford has expressed disgust at those behind the placing of a pipe bomb near an Antrim community centre where the local GAA team was training. The device was found outside the centre at the Stiles estate.

Ford welcomes Mallusk company investment

Alliance Leader David Ford has welcomed news of major investment at Henderson Foodservice, which he says will cement employment and strengthen the company and its base in Mallusk. The organisation is investing approximately £14m on new warehousing and office space at their site in Hightown Avenue in Mallusk
