Anyone with information on the attack on DUP candidate John Smyth's house this morning should contact the PSNI on 0845 600 8000.

Following the pipe bomb attack on DUP candidate Jon Smyth's house at around 4am this morning in the Seacash area of Antrim, I condemned this callous attack.

I said: "I am absolutely appalled at this cold and callous attack. This is an attack on democracy, a right that every one of us holds dear.

"Elected representatives and public servants should be able to go about their important work without fear of attack. My thoughts are with John and his family as they try to come to terms with this sickening incident. Anyone with information on this incident should contact police immediately."

Antrim CID can be contacted on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
