Cooperation between criminal justice organisations on both sides of the border has never been better and both Dermot and I are determined to maximise the opportunities this provides to make our communities safer.

Earlier today I met with Dermot Ahern TD, Irish Minister of Justice and Law Reform at the second formal meeting of the cross-border ministerial group on Criminal Justice Matters since the devolution of policing and justice to Northern Ireland in April. Areas of concern on which we received reports included youth justice, the management of sex offenders, victim support, and forensic science.
