Local initiatives address local problems - Ford5.20.00pm GMT Wed 26th May 2010
Justice Minister David Ford has today praised Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs) for delivering local solutions to local problems. The Minister was speaking following a visit to the Derry City Council CSP Community Safety Wardens project. This initiative is at students atstudents attending the University and provides a safer environment and a greater sense of security within the Campus and surrounding area. David Ford said: "The work being done on the ground, by Derry CSP, is vital in confronting anti-social behaviour, crime and the fear of crime associated with university life. The Community Safety Wardens project is an excellent example deliver practical can deliverpractical results to local communities. "Local people are best placed to combat local problems. The local community safety audit highlighted residents concerns and as a result the CSP in conjunction with the University of Ulster have produced this project that will provide a safer environment and a greater sense of security to all those in the vicinity of the University. "I have been very impressed by what I have seen and heard today from the CSP staff and the wardens and I commend all those involved in this project."
