Justice Minister David Ford

Justice Minister David Ford has today commended the commitment and bravery of police officers as they continue to protect the community.

The Minister was speaking following a meeting with the Police Federation Chairman Terry Spence where he discussed a range of issues, including the dissident republican threat.

Mr Ford said, "The safety and welfare of our police officers and the community in Northern Ireland is of paramount importance. I want to recognise the courage and bravery our officers show on a daily basis, often in very difficult circumstances. They deserve the support and co-operation of the entire community.

"I found my discussions today with the Police Federation incredibly helpful. As representatives of police officers, it is important that I benefit from their insight, knowledge and experience. Terry has made it very clear what issues are concerning his colleagues in the Federation. I am grateful for this opportunity to meet and I anticipate many future meetings. Our ongoing conversation around local circumstances, priorities and needs is another positive example of the difference devolution will make."
