Justice Minister David Ford today visited staff and volunteers of Victim Support NI and the NSPCC Young Witness Service5.02.00pm GMT Wed 21st Apr 2010
Justice Minister David Ford today visited staff and volunteers of Victim Support NI and the NSPCC Young Witness Service. Funded by the Department of Justice, Victim Support NI along with the NSPCC Young Witness service provides a range of services to victims and witnesses of crime, including support to young prosecution witnesses attending court to give evidence. Speaking after the visit Mr Ford said: "I want to see an effective criminal justice system that delivers a safer community for everyone. We need victims of crime to help us deliver that. "That's why it is vital that when victims come forward they have a positive experience that does not add to the stress they may already be enduring. "I have followed the work of Victim Support since I was a member of the first committee some years ago. It is very clear to me, and in feedback from witnesses, that the work being delivered by both Victim Support and the NSPCC Young Witness Service is sensitive and responsive to the needs of victims, and I would like to pay tribute to the staff and volunteers who are providing this invaluable service."
