It is vital for Arlene Foster to now seek a way forward from the current difficulties between the DUP and Sinn Fein. People must now focus their attention on building a new and constructive partnership within the Executive.

Commenting on news that Arlene Foster is to temporarily replace Peter Robinson as First Minister, Alliance Leader David Ford has said it provides a genuine opportunity that must not be squandered to overcome outstanding problems between Sinn Fein and the DUP.

David Ford said: "This announcement provides an opportunity for Peter Robinson to take the time to deal with matters which have diverted attention from the important business of government.

"Alliance believes that it is vital for Arlene Foster to now seek a way forward from the current difficulties between the DUP and Sinn Fein. People must now focus their attention on building a new and constructive partnership within the Executive.

"My colleagues and I will assist in any way we can to make progress. We saw on Friday the devastating consequences of the failure on the part of the Executive to cement the peace. We need decisive progress and strong, positive leadership at this time."
