Ford comments following loyalist decommissioning statement12.00.00pm GMT Sat 27th Jun 2009
Alliance Leader David Ford has commented following at statement from the UVF and Red Hand Commando this morning which said that they had decommissioned fully. David Ford MLA said: "This is a very positive development in the context of progress towards completing the peace process. These moves lift a massive weight of every person in Northern Ireland and in doing so allows people to continue to move forward to a better future. "Communities who have suffered at the hands of these groups will be reassured that it appears that they have decommissioned fully. We now need to see the UDA doing the same as quickly possible. They cannot stall any further and must meet the decommissioning deadline set down by the Secretary of State."
