Ford congratulates Orde on new post

Alliance Leader David Ford MLA has congratulated Sir Hugh Orde on being appointed President of the Association of Chief Police Officers. Sir Hugh who has been Chief Constable of the PSNI since 2002 will have to leave his current post.

David Ford MLA said: "I wish to congratulate Sir Hugh on being elected President of the Association of Chief Police Officers.

"Sir Hugh has done a magnificent job in his seven years as Chief Constable, during which time there have been large strides forward in achieving confidence from all sides in the police.

"We now have a major task in finding a successor to Sir Hugh who will have to build on his good work, as well as having to deal with issues such as the completion of the devolution of policing and justice, and the threat from dissidents."
