Alliance Leader David Ford MLA has called on people to be vigilant at railway crossings and said that the public needs to be extra careful because new trains are quieter that those that they replaced.

David Ford said: "I would appeal to people to be vigilant about railway crossings. People need to be aware of the dangers they can pose and I wish to praise Translink on their partnership work with the Ulster Farmers' Union on this matter.

"Safety must be a priority as there are around 170 rail crossings in Northern Ireland. Also, the new trains are quieter so there is less warning when they are approaching."
