"James Leslie was a very competent parliamentarian, he will be sorely missed across Northern Ireland," said David Ford MLA.

Alliance Leader David Ford has expressed shock at the sudden passing of James Leslie, former Ulster Unionist Junior Minister and Conservative candidate at the last Assembly election in North Down.

David Ford said: "This is deeply sad and I am extremely shocked at the news. James was a very competent parliamentarian and a man of real integrity.

"His family and friends are in my thoughts at this most difficult time. James will be very sorely missed by many across Northern Ireland and he made a genuinely positive contribution to politics here."
