Ford pleased as Tsvangirai becomes Zimbabwe PM1.05.00pm GMT Wed 11th Feb 2009
Alliance Leader David Ford has praised Morgan Tsvangirai following his swearing-in as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe. Mr Ford hosted Mr Tsvangirai at the Liberal International Congress in Belfast last May. Following the visit, the Alliance Party established links with Mr Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change. David Ford said: "This decision demonstrates the immense bravery of Morgan Tsvangirai. I am pleased to see him take office as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe. "Most of us believe that Morgan Tsvangirai should be President, but at least becoming Prime Minister is a step in the right direction. He is a true visionary who can lead Zimbabwe out of troubled times. "He impressed us all so much during his visit to Belfast last year. I want to congratulate him on becoming Prime Minister and pass on my best wishes to him."
