Extra money needed for Antrim housing improvements - Ford

4.50.00pm GMT Mon 2nd Feb 2009

Alliance Leader David Ford has called for extra funding for social housing improvement schemes in the Antrim area. His comments came following a question he posed to Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie on the issue in the Assembly.

David Ford said: "Many Housing Executive tenants in Antrim have been waiting for a very long time for improvements to their homes. It is totally unacceptable that people are not getting essential improvements completed quickly. I pressed the Minister on the issue in Assembly Question Time.

"Margaret Ritchie herself acknowledged that £10.5 million was not enough for all the Housing Executive improvements that are needed.

"The Minister must also acknowledge that improvements are as important as new builds themselves to those who the problems relate to. I will continue to keep the pressure on her to deliver the resources needed for the schemes to be completed as soon as possible."
