Alliance Leader David Ford MLA has extended his condolences following the death of Sir John Hermon.

David Ford MLA said: "Jack Hermon was a senior officer in the 1970s and the Chief Constable of the RUC during the1980s, working all the way through the darkest days of the troubles. He led the force with courage and determination, and was known for doing what he believed was right. He set an example which should inspire members of the PSNI in these different times.

"I want to extend my sympathy to his wife and close family circle. I am sure that the knowledge of the respect in which Jack was held will be a comfort to them at this difficult time."
