Alliance Leader David Ford MLA has welcomed the Government's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. This replaces the previous pledge of a 60% reduction.

David Ford MLA said: "I welcome this news that the Government has increased its pledge to cut carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.

"It is also good news to see that the Government will not abandon green issues in the growing economic climate. It was only in the past month that a report found that we are losing more money through the destruction of our environment than in the global financial crisis.

"Hopefully the Environment Department here will follow suit and the sceptical climate change Minister will carry out his duties that he is required to do so."
