Ford hails success of Omagh Alliance meeting

10.42.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 24th Jun 2008

Alliance Leader David Ford has hailed the success of last Saturday's Alliance Party public meeting at Strule Arts Centre in Omagh.

David Ford said: "Saturday's meeting was a real success. The attendance was good and we discussed a range of important issues. We discussed improving services and infrastructure in the West and we discussed Alliance policy.

"The Alliance Party is growing, in membership and in elected representatives. We have one of the largest youth wings out of all the parties and as the opposition in the Assembly we are punching above our weight across the board.

"I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the event the success that it was."

West Tyrone Alliance Youth Representative Michael Bower added: "The cost of segregation and the failures of the Executive affect the people of the West as much as in the rest of Northern Ireland. In fact, the Executive has directly failed to address issues in West Tyrone regarding health provision, education and the transport network to name a few.

"The attendance at the public meeting showed that people in West Tyrone are sick of a segregated society and fed up with an Executive that ignores the issues that affect them. This was backed up by the results of a door-to-door survey carried out by Alliance Youth prior to the meeting."
