NIR needs more investment

South Antrim Alliance MLA David Ford has welcomed the commitment made by Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy to increasing the frequency of trains to Antrim, which came during an Alliance motion in the Assembly on Tuesday. Alliance put forward the need to rebalance transport funding to improve bus and train services in their debate.

David Ford said: "I am glad that in during our debate the Minister committed to enhancing the train service to Derry.

"This improvement will mean better train services for Antrim and Mossley West. There is a real need for passenger demand to be met on this line.

"So many commuters and students use this line and more frequent trains will deliver a far better service. Trains running more regularly on this route will also encourage more people to get out of their cars and use public transport.

"A better service will also boost the local economy and the tourism sector in the area. The Executive must focus on re-balancing the economy and provide better and more sustainable public services. I will continue to campaign and push the Executive to provide even more new trains and a more frequent service for local people."
