Alliance Leader condemns Antrim pipe bomb thugs

10.18.00am GMT Thu 10th Jan 2008

Alliance Leader MLA David Ford has expressed anger at thugs that placed a pipe bomb at a house in Somerset Park in the Rathenraw Estate in Antrim. The device was found shortly after 1am this morning following police searches. David Ford said that Northern Ireland is moving forward and these individuals must not be allowed to hamper this progress.

The South Antrim MLA said: "Thugs who carry out attacks like this are cowardly and have no support in the wider community.

"This attack is made even more sinister as police are considering a sectarian motive for it.

"When will these people realize that they have been left behind by the progress made in recent years, and their actions have no place in this society? I would ask anyone with information on this attack to contact police, to ensure that the perpetrators can be taken off the streets."
