Ford congratulates Clegg on election as Lib Dem leader3.19.00pm GMT Tue 18th Dec 2007 Alliance Leader David Ford has congratulated Nick Clegg on his election as leader of the Liberal Democrats. David Ford said: "I wish to congratulate Nick Clegg on his election today. He is an experienced parliamentarian, having been an MEP before he was elected to Westminster. "Recently, he has shown how to defend liberal societies against terrorism, without damaging the civil liberties of the ordinary citizen. This is a vital issue at this time of threat to all western countries. "I wish Nick well and look forward to working with him as Leader of our sister party." ENDS
