12.00.00pm GMT Thu 18th Jan 2007

Alliance Leader David Ford has praised Antrim-based construction firm Mivan on winning a 2 million pound contract for work in the Middle East. He stated that this high value export work is the type local firms need, in order to provide real growth for the Northern Ireland economy. Mivan has created a building system which will be used in the construction of two tower blocks in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

David Ford said: "I want to praise Mivan on winning this lucrative contract. This great news is testament to the high standard of construction work that the company carries out.

"This contract will hopefully provide a real boost for the Antrim area as Mivan are a local firm.

"I am very glad that local companies are taking Northern Ireland onto the world stage, are competing with the best and winning.

"This contract is also excellent news because we must build on export growth to expand the local economy, and this is exactly what Mivan are doing very successfully."
